Watio is a Cheyenne Trickster Spirit from ancient lore.  To the Lakota he is referred to as Iktumi or Iktumo.  To the Choinumni he is called He'ump-chi.  Watio can take many forms such as Coyote, Snake, Spider, Crow, Mouse and even People.  It is believed if one harms a Trickster Spirit with out the proper reverence, it will tell all of the other Spirit Creatures that the Transgressor is an evil person with a dark heart.  The Transgressor will no longer be able to hunt or fish because the animals will no longer let themselves be taken for food by the evil dark hearted person.  So, the next time you swat a fly or step on a spider, remember to show the proper respect for taking the life lest you become an evil person with a dark heart.  The idea of a Trickster Spirit exists through out the world for many different peoples.  I get around, don't I?
